About us

The Outdoor Activity Center BASECAMP is a friendly space where people with special needs may grow together, develop their soft and hard skills, make friends, and set out on the new adventures.

The Center was launched in 2021 in Wroclaw by Imago Foundation (link). At the BASECAMP we believe that contact with nature and experiencing real challenges allow one to overcome his or her limitations, gain new competencies and learn more about oneself in social interactions.

Our work is based on nature therapy methods (Adventure, Wilderness Therapy). These are methods that support the process of creating positive change and individual development of the participants, based on the use of wild nature and adventure.

The aims of BASECAMP are:

  • To develop therapeutic, inclusive programs, projects and activities based on Adventure/Wilderness Therapy methods,
  • To promote healing influence of nature on people’s physical and mental well-being,
  • To provide an active respite break for carers of persons with disabilities,
  • To make outdoor activities and active tourism more accessible to people with special needs,
  • To share the knowledge and good practices of on nature therapies and accessible tourism.

At the BASECAMP we organize 1 day and multiple day trips into nature for youths and young adolescents with different disabilities. We also conduct therapeutic and accessible climbing classes on an artificial wall for children, teenagers and adults with disabilities. Our programs consist of elements of the therapeutic process. Their inherent element is to organize activities in nature, and therefore we have implemented programs close to the mountains, rivers, lakes, rocks and forests. Each program is adjusted to the psycho-physical needs of our participants. The ventures are based on different outdoor activities such as: climbing, kayaking, trekking, cycling, bushcrafting, and others. We carry out all expeditions on the basis of developed standards aimed at ensuring the safety and accessibility of the participants of the activities - i.e. trips in small groups (up to 7 people), providing support of assistants or volunteers, analysis of the route before the expedition in terms of accessibility of the terrain for people with mobility disabilities, etc.

Crucial part is our volunteering program for youth and students who are interested in supporting their local community and spending their free time in nature. The volunteers actively participate in outdoor therapeutic programs, learn to assist persons with disabilities, make friends and develop their soft and outdoor skills.

We also share our knowledge on accessible tourism and Adventure Therapy in the work with people with disabilities with experts from other organisations and institutions by organising trainings, participating in seminars and conferences.
We are a member or partner of network organizations: International Short Break Association, Nationwide Network of Respite Care Tourism , International Adventure Therapy Network, European Adventure Therapy Network.
